About Us

OUR PROMISE

The province of Manitoba is a place rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity . ACM now has an even greater responsibility to reach out and touch the african community of Manitoba, using soccer as a symbol of hope and integration.

Soccer (or football) is the sport that is the most watched and played in the entire world and as such it is also garnering an increasing number of enthusiasts in Manitoba. The evolution of the sport in the province is thus a reflection of its worldwide popularity. The game is in itself very interesting as it encompasses sound values such as good physical conditioning, for example, as the players are constantly running as they cover the entire field of play.

The African Cup of Manitoba Inc (ACM) is a soccer tournament that brings together teams of young people from various communities of African immigrants in Manitoba. Since 2003, the competition has been held each year during the summer (July – September). The competition is an opportunity for youths originating from various places to share their passion for the sport, their culture and their country. This major competition also contributes a lasting legacy to the sporting world in Manitoba.

OUR MISSION

We see soccer (or football) as our mission to contribute towards building a better future for african in Manitoba by using the power and popularity of soccer. This mission gives meaning and direction to each and every activity that ACM is involved in - soccer being an integrated part of our society.

The African Cup of Manitoba Inc (ACM):

  • Promote sport and physical activity
  • Contribute to the health and quality of life of Canadians as well as to the dynamism of our communities
  • Promote unity, brotherhood and prosperity in Manitoban communities
  • Take children off the streets and facilitate their integration into Manitoban society
  • Facilitate liaison and coordination between Manitoba’s African communities
  • Promote harmony and peace bewteen Africans and Canadians of different origins, in the spirit of Canadian multiculturalism

Soccer is virtually the one and only sport that is played by immigrants and as such it acts as a powerful vehicle for ethnic integration where everybody identifies with each other as a result of its (the sport) worldwide popularity. It is a known fact that physical activity reduces stress, makes the heart and lungs stronger, increases energy levels and helps us to reach and maintain a healthy weight and achieve a better quality of life.

OUR APPROACH

Promote the game. Constantly promote it in Manitoba in the light of its unifying, educational, cultural and humanitarian values, particularly through youth and development programmes. soccer development means investing in people and society at large. soccer is a school of life.

Build a better future. Soccer is no longer considered merely a global sport, but also as unifying force whose virtues can make an important contribution to society. We use the power of soccer as a tool for social and human development, by strengthening the work of dozens of initiatives around the globe to support local communities in the areas of health, social integration, education and more.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Our core values of authenticity, unity and integrity are at the very heart of who we are.

Authenticity. We believe that soccer must remain a simple, beautiful game played by, enjoyed by and touching the lives of all people in Manitoba

Unity. We believe it is ACM´s responsibility to foster unity within the soccer in African Community in Manitoba and to use soccer to promote solidarity, regardless of gender, ethnic background, faith or culture

Integrity. We believe that, just as the game itself, ACM must be a model of fair play, tolerance, sportsmanship and transparency.
